Ultimately, the students inspired the design. Our primary objective was to cleanly reorganize the information and develop it into a sensational resource for everyone who would use the sites. We wanted to create something practical without sacrificing exciting design - and we did. Our creative team started with the mascots from each school to produce a layout that maintained consistency across all sites, while emphasizing the uniqueness of each school. Beyond the layout, the school mascot on each page is doing something related to the subject of the page (i.e. on the sports pages the school mascot at the top is playing sports). This means each school site and page are consistent, but different. We accomplished all of this while still keeping the sites functional AND fun.
We needed to keep navigation simple to cater to the broad range of users for this website. We wanted all students, from youngest to oldest, to be able to move easily from site to site. To do this, we developed a dynamic menu system that allows users to surf from one page on the network to any other page in no more than 2 clicks. This is amazing since there are over 1800 pages in the website!
After launching District 709's new network, the average number of individual visitors soared to over 28,000 per month. Now they supply approximately 3 MILLION pages of content to those visitors on a monthly basis. This is almost a 20 fold increase in traffic for District 709!!
When District 709's Assistant Superintendent approached us about redesigning all of their websites, immediately we looked at what they had and at that moment we knew this would be a challenge! They wanted a new site for four grade schools, the Jr. High, High School, District Office and a huge Homework/Extra Curricular Resource Center. After months of dedication, the District 709 project has become one of our most impressive, with a fusion of commanding performance and aggressive design!
We helped the district organize a team of 15 teachers to update the content on each site, and none of them were required to know HTML. Every single page of the network (1800+) utilizes the Cybernautic Content Management System. This allows D709 staff to manage each site daily, making the site an invaluable resource for teachers, administrators, parents, and most importantly the students.
